Dittoe PR Helps Crew Carwash Raise Over $30,000 for Riley Children’s Foundation

Crew 3A staple carwash organization in Central Indiana, Crew Carwash has a strong reputation for customer service and giving back to the local community. The organization has teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana in the past, and at the start of 2016, wanted to begin a new partnership with Riley Children’s Foundation.

Crew’s plan was to donate 50 percent of the first month’s proceeds from every purchase of an Unlimited Wash plan between April 30-May 8 to Riley Children’s Foundation. Crew decided early on that all of the money raised would go to Riley’s Maternity and Newborn Health program, a brand new initiative aimed at greatly reducing Indiana’s infant mortality rate.

Fewer than 20 babies have been born at Riley Hospital since it opened in 1924. Soon, Riley Hospital will offer the full spectrum of maternity care, from low-risk pregnancies to specialty care for mothers and babies with complex needs.

Crew 2

As Crew embarked on this new partnership, Dittoe PR was there every step of the way. Dittoe coordinated all meetings between Crew and Riley, helped create the official campaign name – “Unlimited Hope for Riley” and social media hashtag – #Crew4Riley, and planned a major kick-off event at Crew’s Downtown Indianapolis location.

Crew worked closely with Riley to ensure Riley Kids and their families were able to attend the event. The kids enjoyed snacks, greeted customers and even helped spray down cars in the carwash tunnel.

Despite bad weather, (it rained eight of the nine days of the campaign), Crew was able to raise $31,563.

While Crew did an excellent job executing the campaign internally to its 600 team members, it was up to Dittoe PR to get the word out and inform local Central Indiana residents on how they can make an impact. Dittoe secured media placement on WRTV (ABC), WTHR (NBC), the Indianapolis Star, the International Car Wash Association and Professional Carwash & Detailing Magazine. This coverage generated 380,939 media impressions.

Needless to say, the “Unlimited Hope for Riley” campaign was a huge success for Crew, Riley Children’s Foundation, and most importantly, Riley patients. At Dittoe PR, we’re thrilled to spread the word of Crew’s philanthropic efforts and honored to help raise funds for such an important initiative.

An Indianapolis Music and Technology Festival to Benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

My father broke the news to me in December 2012 that my Grandfather had been diagnosed with Leukemia. I had no idea what that meant for me or for us as a family. Growing up the only granddaughter, it’s safe to say my Grandfather and I had a bond that nobody in the world could comprehend or come between.

The doctors told us it would be months. Months quickly turned into weeks, and soon days. My grandfather was the strongest man I knew. He served 30+ years in the navy and continued to work until he wasn’t physically able. There is no feeling in the world like seeing the strongest person you know be torn down mentally, physically and emotionally by an illness… and not being able to help.

My grandfather was a blood donor his entire life. Near the end of the battle he was blood transfusion dependant. He would receive a blood transfusion every two weeks to hopefully give him a couple days of life. When the doctors gave word that he had three weeks left to live, I was on a plane to say my “see you later.” I was lucky enough to be in town during one of the transfusions. After eight or so hours in the hospital, the following day he was able to go swimming and out to eat with the family. A thousand words could never explain how thankful I am for that day with him. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has given blood or plans to in the future. Thank you.

Now, I can’t go a day without hearing the word cancer. Seven months since his funeral and I still cringe every time someone says the word. I had heard of Leukemia before but had never met anybody suffering from the disease itself. I am so incredibly thankful that my Grandfather lived to see 72 successful, happy years. Leukemia typically strikes much younger – very young children often suffer. Studies show that one in every five people know a person who has died or is suffering from a blood cancer: mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, grandchildren, grandparents, husbands, wives, friends, co-workers.

LLSWe’re close to a cure, though. Leukemia cases that had a 10 percent chance of survival now have in the 90s. It’s too late for my grandfather, but we’re close to saving many, many more people.

Since 2009, 55 candidates in the Indianapolis Man & Woman of the Year have raised nearly $1.8 million. Candidates are chosen each year to participate in a 10-week fundraising competition to earn the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s ‘Man & Woman of the Year’ titles by raising funds for blood cancer research.

This year, my father, Douglas Karr has been chosen as a 2014 candidate. My dad is the Chief Marketing Officer of Circupress, the CEO of DK New Media, founder of The Marketing Technology blog, and author of Corporate Blogging for Dummies. With my father’s technology background and large network throughout the city, he has decided to put on a Music and Technology Festival here in Indianapolis. On April 27, 2014, music will be played throughout the day in the Beer Garden of the Rathskellar and a technology conference will be held downstairs where you can see and experience the best marketing and technology the state has to offer.

2014-MTinMW-signThank you so much, to the Rathskeller for opening their hearts and venue to this upcoming event. The night will be filled with live, local musical talent while raising awareness for local marketing and technology companies. All proceeds from ticketing, sponsorships, and donations at the event will be benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma society – going directly to research, support and information programs for blood cancer patients.

Go to http://musictechindy.org to pledge, volunteer or sponsor the event. Be sure to RSVP and share the event on Facebook.

While my grandfather can’t attend, I’m sure his spirit will fill the air. Come join us!

Big Time Clients Show Big Time Heart

As a PR professional, there is nothing better than seeing your clients in the headlines. Though the feeling attached to it can be hard to put into words, there is something that may very well trump that feeling, and that is hearing about all the wonderful things Dittoe PR’s clients are doing for the community. Dittoe PR has received some amazing client news over the last few days that we can’t help but share, as we are so proud and honored to represent these generous and inspiring clients.

Last week, Bella Sara™ donated over 900 plush horse toys to Children’s Medical Center Dallas, located in Dallas, Texas. Bella Sara is no stranger to giving back to the community, and embraces each and every available opportunity to help brighten the day of young children and bring smiles to their faces. The excitement surrounding their donation to Children’s Medical Center Dallas is indescribable, and their involvement in these children’s treatment and recovery is something to be cherished.

Over the weekend, Fred Klipsch and family committed to a donation of $1 million to Purdue University’s Mackey Arena project. Fred S. Klipsch, a Purdue alumnus, is the chairman and CEO of client, Klipsch Group, Inc. Klipsch’s pride in his alpha mater has lead to significant support of the university throughout the years, including gifts to the School of Technology and Athletics Department.

Though they may be busy, ExactTarget never goes without thinking of others and what they can do to help.  Today, the company announced that a team of nearly 200 employees from OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc. and ExactTarget will join forces with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis Friday, April 16 to begin constructing a home for an Indianapolis veteran left homeless by Hurricane Katrina. This project is the latest of a series of projects that have resulted in thousands of hours of charitable support from ExactTarget and OneAmerica Financial.

The entire Dittoe PR crew would like to commend each and every one of our clients for their positive contributions. Their generous hearts and helpful souls make our jobs that much easier and that much more delightful.

Our most sincere regards to all of you for your charitable efforts.
