Dittoe PR is proud to be named a finalist for PR Daily’s 2024 Nonprofit Communications Awards in the media relations category. The recognition stems from an exceptional year in our long-standing partnership with The Evans Scholars Foundation. The annual industry awards program celebrates the tireless efforts of nonprofit causes – and those who communicate on their behalf – and the ability to effectively showcase their missions, inspire action and make a positive community impact.
The Evans Scholars Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that awards full tuition and housing college scholarships to high-achieving golf caddies with limited financial means. Established in 1930 by the Western Golf Association (WGA) and celebrated amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., the Evans Scholarship is the nation’s largest privately funded scholarship program.
Over the past 13 years, our agency has managed PR and media relations efforts for the WGA, Evans Scholars Foundation, and six BMW Championship golf tournaments – the penultimate event of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs. Since 2011, Dittoe PR has driven year-round proactive media relations for the WGA and Evans Scholarship, primarily focusing on promoting new Evans Scholars annually.
In our Nonprofit Communications Awards nomination, we highlighted the team’s media relations work that led to our most successful year yet with the Evans Scholars Foundation. Starting in January 2023, the dedicated account team began promoting scholarship recipients in each market where the caddies reside, targeting local and hyperlocal newspapers and TV stations in more than 100 markets. The most compelling caddie stories were also shared in outreach to national media. These human interest-driven efforts led to more than 88 earned TV segments and drove our Evans Scholars Foundation messaging to a national audience of more than 1.2 million.
Dittoe PR also promoted the Evans Scholars Foundation’s connection to the 2023 BMW Championship. During tournament week, the account team leveraged scholarship recipients for numerous media opportunities, including live interviews with local TV stations. Evans Scholars also had the opportunity to participate in amazing initiatives during tournament week, many of which drove compelling storylines for media coverage. This included Evans Scholar Diego Origel caddying for (now Olympic gold-winning) Scottie Scheffler during the Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am and Evans Scholar Diana Llamas meeting 2023 BMW Championship winner Viktor Hovland, who helped earn her a full Evans Scholarship by sinking a hole-in-one at the 2022 event.
It’s an honor to be recognized by PR Daily and in the company of so many impressive finalists. We are so proud of the amazing work accomplished by Dittoe PR’s own Kasie Pieri, Colton Howard and Michal Spanjer. Their dedication and expertise know no bounds and made this recognition possible. No matter the outcome of the award selection, Dittoe PR is eternally grateful to work alongside the Evans Scholars Foundation and amplify the life-altering impact they continue to provide to deserving young adults around the country.
