Danielle McDowell and Janell Shaffer launched a platform called My Best Friend’s Hair, later changed to Loxa Beauty, which helped customers connect with local hairstylists. When they noticed their customers wanted more, they decided it might be time for a change. The discovery led them to take a plunge and pivot their business idea, which led them to get acquired by a multibillion-dollar international beauty retailer almost immediately, as in talks began two weeks after the initial pivot.
