Three Tips to Plan a Successful Grand Opening

Dittoe PR is no stranger to planning grand opening events. Between Broken Beaker Distillery, two CycleBar locations, six GetGo locations, Carmel’s Market District, Hickory House, and Broken English Taco Pub – among many others – we’ve got the process down pat.

When Chicago-famous taqueria Broken English Taco Pub decided to expand to Indianapolis, they had to not only find the perfect location but an Indianapolis public relations team to assist with grand opening planning and secure media coverage around the expansion to the Circle City. Assisting with everything from creating the guest list and sending invitations to coordinating a Facebook Live interview during the grand opening event, Dittoe PR did it all.

When planning for a grand opening event, keep the following tips in mind:

Set a goal. Is the goal to pack the house? Secure TV coverage? Work with key influencers? Once you know where the finish line is located, it’s much easier to start the marathon. Setting an overall goal will help keep the team’s eye on the prize during the planning process.

Outline the run-of-show. Keep everyone on track by creating a run-of-show document that will include all the key details, including contacts, timeline, media interviews, menus, entertainment, and more. The level of detail depends on the depth of the event, but collaborating with the team to ensure everything you need is in one place is integral to pulling off a successful event. Modifications can always be made, but having this prepared ahead of time relieves stress that will inevitably arise the day-of.

Give yourself plenty of time. There is a long list of steps that need to be accomplished to ensure the big day goes off without a hitch. Typically, grand openings can take weeks (or even months) to plan. By creating a time table for weekly tasks and checkpoints, it’s much easier to stay on track. Are there potential issues that might arise? Have your vendors signed contracts? Do you know who will field media interviews or check the guest list? Include these questions and details into your ever-evolving run-of-show to keep your team on track.

A SUBstantial Grand Opening for GetGo Cafe + Market

For many, driving to and from work, school, appointments, etc. has opened Pandora’s box to “sub”-par food decisions. However, a Pennsylvania chain is attempting to change the narrative that busy people can’t eat quick and fresh meals.

GetGo Cafe + Market, a convenient concept from multi-format food retailer Giant Eagle, offers a wide-ranging menu of made-fresh-to-order foods including custom-made subs, burgers, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies and expressos, and more.

After adding a location in Carmel last October, the chain is continuing to expand into Central Indiana with the addition of four new Indianapolis-area locations. The expansion will create more than 150 jobs.

Dittoe PR was tasked with raising awareness about the expansion and did so in star-studded fashion.

Alongside the GetGo team, Dittoe PR helped plan and execute “sub-cutting” ceremonies and charitable sub-building challenges involving community members at two grand openings in Plainfield and Rockville Road in Indianapolis. Adding even more excitement, celebrity chef and renowned restaurateur Michael Symon joined in the grand opening celebrations.

While Dittoe PR coordinated on-site media opportunities, Symon diced up subs and welcomed hungry customers at both locations. In total, Dittoe PR’s effort resulted in 22 media placements including the Indy Star, FOX59, WISH-TV, Indy Style, WIBC and RTV6 – with more to come. Within a couple days, media placements totaled more than 2 million impressions.

Dittoe PR helps CycleBar breakaway from the peloton

Tired of being stuck behind joggers and walkers on the bike path? Say goodbye to traditional outdoor cycling and hello to CycleBar. CycleBar, an indoor cycling studio, opened its second location in Indianapolis with the help of Dittoe PR.

Unlike most workout studios that require a monthly membership fee, CycleBar Traders Point operates on a pay-per-class model that allows guests to purchase class packages and reserve their spots up to a week in advance.

How Dittoe PR assisted CycleBar’s opening

Dittoe PR invited area businesses, groups, and nonprofit organizations to attend a VIP experience free of charge. The only request? Riders were encouraged to bring spare office supplies as a special donation to Teachers’ Treasures, a local partner organization that helps teachers provide their students with the supplies necessary for a well-rounded education. Dittoe PR used the charitable tie to spark media interest and contribute to a good cause. A win-win for all involved.

Overall, CycleBar Traders Point was able to collect five donation boxes filled with new and gently used school supplies for Teachers’ Treasures. Each box weighed nearly 50 pounds!

“Our area teachers and students benefited enormously from this partnership,” said Margaret Sheehan, executive director of Teachers’ Treasures. “We are appreciative of CycleBar’s commitment to the community and in particular, to teachers and education.”

CycleBar Traders PointIn addition to reaching out to local businesses and nonprofits for VIP rides, Dittoe PR executed several communications tactics including media relations, influencer outreach, and organic social media promotion to secure mounds of coverage for CycleBar. Interviews have included – WISH TV, WRTV, Indianapolis Business Journal, The Indianapolis Star, and Current in Zionsville.

With Dittoe PR’s help, CycleBar Traders Point is on its way to becoming the hottest ride in Indy.  They’re located in the Traders Point Shopping Center at 6010 W. 86TH St., Suite 130 and are currently running a three for $29 ride deal. We hope to see you there!
